Back Pain When Using a Standing Workstation?

Have you ever swapped to a standing desk, only to find your back starts aching? You’re not alone. When I first started getting asked about standing workstations, I created this video—and the tips are still just as relevant today.

Here are some quick do’s and don’ts to help you stand well and stay comfortable:

Don’ts

  • Don’t rest your chin in your hand and lean forward.
  • Don’t slouch or hold poor postures for too long.
  • Don’t lean your hips against the desk and tilt backwards.
  • Don’t keep your desk too low—it’ll force you to lean or rest on your elbows.

Do’s

  • Check your screen height—the centre should be around shoulder height, even when standing.
  • Use a small step to rest one foot on occasionally—this reduces strain on your lower back.
  • Move often: roll your hips, lift your knees, and shake off the tension.

Standing desks can be a great tool for comfort and health—if you use them right. Watch the video to see these tips in action and keep your back happy at work!
