As I entered my 60s, I noticed a decline in my physical abilities and motivation to exercise, so I decided to take a self-defence class. The experience was so rewarding that I now practice Ju Jutsu at the Jan de Jong dojo in WA. Not only is it fun and social, but the practice has improved my balance, coordination, and overall fitness. Most importantly, it has revitalised my agility, energy, and focus, challenging the notion of aging gracefully.
Lucy also thought this plan was interesting, which prompted an article that will soon be published in the AFR, with some action shots taken at the Dojo.
Modern life has emphasised convenience and ease, yet we’ve unknowingly fallen into a lifestyle that is both sedentary and mentally taxing, resulting in a gradual decline in our overall well-being. This decline is often not noticed until we add up the time and cost of visits to doctors, physiotherapists, etc., taking painkillers, and trying to muster the motivation to go to the gym.
